Serve with sturdy tortilla chips for the perfect game day treat.

Vegan 7-Layer Party Dip ~ Layers of beans, fresh guacamole, for an easy crowd-pleasing appetizer!

Football season is upon us, friends, which really only means one thing to me – game day food – and we all know you can’t go wrong with a great dip. This 7-layer bean dip is perfect for parties or family gatherings. Set it all out with a big bowl of tortilla chips and dig in!

I like this layer dip recipe because traditional 7-layer dip is one of the best party appetizers, especially when you want to have at least a few healthy recipes on the Super Bowl Party menu.

Ingredients for Vegan 7-Layer Party Dip

You will need the following:

  • 15 ounces vegan refried pinto beans
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 6 large avocados
  • ¼ cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups vegan sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 2 cups tomatoes diced
  • 2 cups black olives, sliced
  • ½ cup green onions, sliced

Ingredient Notes

  • Refried Pinto Beans – Traditional refried beans are often made with animal fat, so look for beans labeled vegan or vegetarian. Old El Paso’s refried beans labeled ‘vegetarian’ are also vegan. For a slight flavor twist, you can use refried black beans.
  • Chili Powder – Adds a mild heat and deep, smoky flavor to the beans.
  • Ground Cumin – Provides a warm, earthy aroma that complements the beans perfectly.
  • Salt – Enhances the flavors of all the ingredients.
  • Ground Black Pepper – Adds a subtle kick and depth to the spice mix.
  • Paprika – Brings a sweet, peppery flavor with a vibrant color.
  • Garlic Powder – Infuses the beans with a savory, garlicky taste.
  • Onion Powder – Adds a sweet and tangy onion flavor without the moisture.
  • Dried Oregano – Contributes a slightly bitter, aromatic note that balances the other spices.
  • Avocados – Essential for creamy guacamole, bringing richness and a healthy fat component.
  • Cilantro – Fresh and slightly citrusy, it brightens up the guacamole.
  • Lime Juice – Adds a zesty tang to the guacamole, preventing the avocados from browning.
  • Vegan Sour Cream – Creamy and tangy, it contrasts nicely with the beans and guacamole.
  • Lettuce – Adds a fresh, crisp texture to the dip.
  • Tomatoes – For the best flavor, use fresh tomatoes. For a spicy kick, use fresh pico de gallo for the tomato layer.
  • Black Olives – Salty and slightly bitter, they add complexity and visual appeal.
  • Green Onions (Scallions) – For mild onion flavor and a pop of color.
Vegan 7-Layer Party Dip - Seven layers of taco-spiced refried beans, homemade guacamole, vegan sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, & green onions.

How to Make Vegan 7-Layer Party Dip

STEP ONE: In a medium bowl, combine the refried beans, chili powder, cumin, 2 teaspoons salt, ground black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried oregano. Mix well and set aside.

STEP TWO: In a second medium bowl, mash the avocados with a fork or a potato masher to your desired consistency. Stir in the cilantro, lime juice, and 1 teaspoon salt.

STEP THREE: In a 9×13-inch casserole dish, spread the refried bean mixture in an even layer. Follow with layers of guacamole, vegan sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, and green onions.

STEP FOUR: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Time Saver Tip

  • Making your own guacamole is easy, but you can save a few minutes of prep time by using store-bought guacamole.

Optional Add-Ins

Add more layers to your seven-layer dip with one or more of the following:

  • Vegan Ground Beef: Brown and season with taco seasoning, then set aside to cool and add over the top of the beans.
  • Cheese: Sprinkle pre-shredded vegan cheese (cheddar or Mexican cheese blend) between the layer of guacamole and the layer of sour cream.
  • Green Chiles: For a touch of smoky flavor, layer in some green chiles.

FAQ for Vegan 7-Layer Party Dip

  • Can I make this dip ahead of time? Yes, you can prepare the dip a day in advance. Just cover it tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate. The flavors will meld together nicely, but wait to add the lettuce until just before serving to keep it crisp.
  • How do I store leftovers? This dip is best consumed the same day, but it’s still good a day or two later. Cover the dip with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate. The guacamole may darken slightly, but it’s still safe to eat.
