Chili Cream Cheese Dip
Chili dip, in all of its many variations, has earned its place as a beloved comfort food during the colder months. It’s hearty, savory, and perfect for casual get-togethers, from Super Bowl watch parties to cozy movie nights at home. This chili dip combines the warmth and spice of chili with the creamy goodness of cream cheese.
Leftover Chili Dip Recipe
If you happen to have leftover homemade chili on hand, this easy recipe is a great way to repurpose it into something new and equally delicious. The creaminess from the cream cheese, the kick from the green chiles, and the seasonings will elevate your leftover chili, giving it a fresh new twist.
No leftover chili? No problem!
Canned chili is a convenient and popular option for this recipe.
Ingredients for Chili Dip
You will need the following:
- 2 cups prepared vegetarian chili
- 15 ounces petite diced tomatoes
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 4 ounces diced green chiles
- 3 tablespoons chili seasoning
Ingredient Notes
- Prepared Chili: Leftover chili or a store-bought can of chili is a great time-saver for this recipe.
- Diced Tomatoes: Smaller, petite-diced, tomatoes work perfectly because they blend into the dip easily without being too chunky. Regular diced tomatoes are good, too—they’ll just be a bit larger.
- Cream Cheese: A block of cream cheese adds a smooth, creamy texture that makes the dip rich and satisfying. Regular, dairy-free, or reduced-fat cream cheese all work for this recipe.
- Green Chiles: I use mild diced chiles to bring a touch of tangy flavor to the dip that balances out the richness. If you’re looking for a bit more kick, go for hot diced chiles or add a few dashes of hot sauce.
- Chili Seasoning: Using a pre-made chili seasoning mix is a real time-saver and ensures the dip is full of great flavor with minimal effort. If you prefer to tweak the spices, add more chili powder, cumin, or garlic to your liking.
How to Make Chili Dip
Microwave Method:
STEP ONE: Combine Ingredients. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine prepared chili, petite diced tomatoes, softened cream cheese, and diced green chiles. Stir until everything is well combined. Gradually stir in chili seasoning 1 tablespoon at a time, adding more if needed for extra flavor.
STEP TWO: Heat. Microwave the mixture on high for 1 minute. Stir and check the temperature. Continue microwaving in 30-second increments, stirring after each time, until the dip is heated through. (Microwave times will vary depending on wattage.)
Oven Method:
If you prefer baking your dip, the oven method is a great option. It’ll take a little longer but will give the dip a lovely bubbly texture.
STEP ONE: Mix Ingredients. Combine all ingredients in an oven-safe dish.
STEP TWO: Bake. Bake at 350°F for about 20-25 minutes or until the dip is bubbly and hot. Serve immediately.
Crock Pot Method:
STEP ONE: Combine Ingredients. Combine all ingredients in a 1-quart slow cooker.
STEP TWO: Heat. Cover and cook on the low heat setting for 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally, until hot and cheese is melted. Switch to the warm setting and serve.
Storage and Reheating
- Store leftover dip, cooled to room temperature, in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, or warm on the stovetop over low heat.
