Stuffed Celery Recipe

I like this easy appetizer recipe because it can be made up to a day in advance and chilled until ready to serve. I find this particularly helpful during the busy holiday season. Also, the filling is delicious on its own and can be served as a Game Day dip with crackers or spread on a toasted bagel for a tasty and piquant alternative to plain cream cheese.

Ingredients for Cream Cheese and Olive Stuffed Celery

You will need:

  • 12 celery stalks, trimmed and cut in half
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pimento-stuffed green olives, drained and finely chopped
  • 2/3 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Ingredient Notes

  • Celery. Look for bright green and crisp stalks with plenty of room down the center to add the filling.
  • Cream Cheese. The cream cheese you choose will greatly affect the flavor of the filling so use a brand you know and love. I like Trader Joe’s brand vegan cream cheese because, to me, the flavor and consistency are the most similar to the dairy-based Philadelphia brand.
  • Pimento-Stuffed Green Olives. Use a mini food processor to make quick work of getting the olives finely chopped.
  • Garlic powder. You can also use 2 cloves of garlic, finely minced.

How to Make Cream Cheese and Olive Stuffed Celery

STEP ONE: In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the cream cheese, green olives, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

STEP TWO: Spoon a generous amount of filling down the center of each celery piece. Serve or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
