How to Make Candied Sweet Potatoes

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.

STEP TWO: Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into rounds approximately 1/8-inch in thickness. Into the prepared baking dish, neatly arrange the sweet potato rounds in overlapping layers. Set aside.

STEP THREE: Into a small mixing bowl, add the orange juice, melted butter, and salt. Stir to combine then pour evenly over the sweet potatoes.

STEP FOUR: Cover and bake for 30 minutes.

STEP FIVE: While the sweet potatoes are baking: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, chopped pecans, and cinnamon.

STEP SIX: After 30 minutes of baking, carefully remove the sweet potatoes from the oven. Remove the foil, then sprinkle the pecan/sugar mixture over the top of the sweet potatoes.

STEP SEVEN: Return the sweet potatoes to the oven then continue to bake, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes, until the potatoes are cooked through then serve hot.

Quick Tip for Success

  • Make quick work of slicing the sweet potatoes and ensure a uniform thickness of the slices by using a mandoline set to 1/8-inch.
