Stir Fry Sauce ~
This garlic and ginger stir fry sauce adds robust flavor to stir-fried vegetables or tofu and it’s ready to go in 5 minutes or less!
This easy stir fry sauce is versatile, too. Try it drizzled over Crispy Baked Tofu or fried rice!
I like this recipe because a stir-fried dinner is perfect for when I’ve overbought vegetables for another recipe and have excess that I need to use or lose. Serve the stir-fried veggies over fluffy Scallion Rice and dinner is done!
This recipe yields just over 1/3 cup of sauce; enough for 6 cups of veggies and can be easily adjusted to suit your needs.
Ingredients for Garlic and Ginger Stir Fry Sauce
You will need:
- 2 tablespoons tamari, or soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Ingredient Notes
- Tamari: Japanese tamari and Chinese soy sauce have similar flavor profiles and can generally be used interchangeably. The main difference between the two is that tamari is just slightly thicker in consistency and less salty.
- Hoisin: This thick sauce adds an element of sweetness.
- Garlic: Fresh is best but 1 teaspoon of garlic powder will work in a pinch.
- Ginger: As with garlic, use fresh if it’s available. If not, substitute 1 teaspoon of ground ginger.
- Sesame Oil: Adds a unique earthy and nutty flavor to the sauce.
- Ground Black Pepper: Gives a slightly spicy kick. Use more or less to suit your taste.
How to Make Homemade Stir Fry Sauce
STEP ONE: In a small bowl, whisk together the tamari, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper.
STEP TWO: Use immediately or refrigerate in a covered container for up to 1 week.
What Should I Put in Stir Fry?
This is where you can really get creative!
- You can load up your wok or skillet with pretty much whatever you want. Popular choices include fresh vegetables such as Asian greens like Napa cabbage or bok choy, bell peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli. Tofu and vegan chicken substitutes also work well.
