Easy Vegan Hollandaise Sauce ~
Rich, creamy, and so very easy!!
The classic hollandaise sauce gets a vegan upgrade and the flavor is exactly what you remember from the traditional egg-based version!
Easy Vegan Hollandaise Sauce Recipe
Perfect for brunch or a breakfast-for-dinner night, this delicious sauce that can be whipped up in no time adds a decadent touch to all sorts of dishes.
And this vegan version of hollandaise, one of the mother sauces of classic French cuisine, is not just for special occasions. Trust me, you’ll want to drizzle this creamy sauce over roasted asparagus, spoon it over Vegan Tofu Benedict Florentine, and even use it as a sauce for breakfast enchiladas and tacos.
I like this easy recipe because it has all the eggy flavor of a traditional hollandaise sauce without the addition of things such as silken tofu, nutritional yeast or raw cashews – ingredients that are found in so many vegan hollandaise recipes. The main ingredient in this decadent sauce is mayonnaise. That’s right; you heard me and it totally works. This vegan sauce has a familiar yellow color and similar flavor profile to the dairy version that many of us know and love.
Ingredients for Creamy Vegan Hollandaise Sauce:
You will need:
- 1 cup vegan mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons vegan butter
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper sauce – I use Frank’s Red Hot brand
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
How to Make Easy Vegan Hollandaise Sauce:
STEP ONE: To a small saucepan over medium heat, add all ingredients.
STEP TWO: Cook, stirring frequently until heated through; do not boil.
That’s it! Your vegan hollandaise sauce is ready to serve!

What is cayenne pepper sauce?
thiswifecooks
Cayenne pepper sauce is a spicy condiment that can be easily found in the dressings/sauces area of supermarkets. There are several brands available. I like Frank’s Red Hot.

I made this and put too much on my eggs Michelle but then I mixed it IN the recipe and it made it DELICIOUS! the one dish I didn’t have to add extra salt!
(eggs Michelle: crumbled, drained firm tofu with spices, fried, with a bag of frozen spinach mixed with a whole onion, sauteed and three cloves of garlic, minced. Add the sauce to bring it together and serve on top of a toasted English muffin)

Yum! Sounds like a perfect breakfast to me!😍

Which brand of vegan mayo do you use?
thiswifecooks
Vegenaise and Hellmann’s Vegan are my current favorites. I’ve used both for this recipe and there was no difference. 🙂
Kim
Very easy to make and a nice quick addition to brunch. Might try it with a little less mayo and sub vegan sour cream and see how that tastes.
Thanks for the recipe!

Loved this easy and tasty recipe I had some black salt (the one that smells like sulfur) and added a punch to this. It gave it a slightly eggy taste. I’m going to use this recipe as a substitute for the eggs used in a potato salad for a vegan version.

Hi Carmen ~ Thank you so much! I like your addition of black salt! 🙂
