Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Frosting ~
Everything you love about cookie dough in a rich, creamy, and spreadable frosting!
Cookie Dough Frosting Recipe
I like this easy frosting recipe because it’s delicious and ready to go in about 5 minutes. A decadent topping for cakes, cupcakes, and brownies, this frosting is even safe to eat straight from the bowl!
This recipe yields enough frosting to generously cover a 2-layer cake (made in standard 8-9-inch pans) or 12 cupcakes.
How to Cook Flour
Do you need to cook flour? Maybe. I’ll admit, until very recently, I never associated raw flour with food poisoning in any way and have likely consumed buckets of it over the years in the form of raw cookie dough and batters; fearlessly and recklessly licking beaters and spatulas and…. now that I think of it…never actually getting sick, not even a little bit.
Anyway.
Food poisoning from consuming uncooked flour is apparently a real thing so I feel that it’s only fitting to share this new-to-me information, in case you also didn’t know: Raw flour can possibly contain bacteria that cause food poisoning and the solution to this potential risk is cooking the flour; raising the temperature to 160°F kills whatever could be in there.
How to Heat-Treat Flour
There are two straightforward ways to do this: the microwave and the oven.
- Microwave Method: Spread the flour on a microwave-safe plate and cook for 30 seconds. Stir the flour around and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Oven Method: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spread the flour onto a baking sheet, Bake for 5 minutes, stirring halfway to break it up. The downside to using the oven is that the flour can stick a bit to the pan. Personally, I find this highly annoying and prefer the microwave method.
Now that’s out of the way, let’s get on to the recipe!

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, dairy-free
How to Make Chocolate Chip Cooke Dough Frosting
STEP ONE: In a large bowl, use a hand mixer to cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
STEP TWO: Add the vanilla extract, salt, flour, and milk. Mix again to incorporate.
