Ingredients for Vegan Chorizo Burgers
You will need:
- 12 ounces vegan chorizo
- 12 ounces vegan ground beef
- 1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 4 slices vegan cheese, optional for topping
- 1/2 cup prepared guacamole, optional for topping
- 4 burger buns
Ingredient Notes
- Vegan Chorizo. This is a highly seasoned sausage traditionally used in Spanish and Mexican cooking. Look for it on the vegan meat aisle of your supermarket.
- Vegan Ground Beef. Adding plant-based ground beef balances the meaty flavor and gives the burger a sturdier structure than it would have with just chorizo. I use the Impossible or Beyond Meat brand.
- Vegan Worcestershire Sauce. I like The Wizard’s brand Worcestershire sauce.
- Sweet Paprika. For a little contrast to the smokiness of the chorizo.
- Vegan Cheese. Mozzarella and provolone pair especially well with these burgers.
- Guacamole. Adds a cool touch and complements the burgers beautifully.
- Burger Buns. With the big flavors of these burgers, there’s no need to get fancy with the buns. Plain white buns work just fine.
How to Make Vegan Chorizo Burgers
STEP ONE: Preheat the grill to 375°F or cast iron skillet to medium-high.
STEP TWO: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chorizo, ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
STEP THREE: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then use the palm of your hand to flatten each ball into a patty of about 1/2-inch thickness.
STEP FOUR: Place the burger patties over the direct heat side of your preheated grill. Grill for about 7 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
STEP FIVE: While burgers are still on the grill, top each burger with a slice of cheese then close the grill for 1-2 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt.
STEP SIX: Place the buns face-side down on the direct heat of your grill and toast for 1-2 minutes. Place cooked burgers on the toasted buns, top with guacamole, if using, and serve.
