I like this sauce because it’s loaded with flavor, quick to make, and everyone loves it!
Sour cream sauce is such a versatile condiment that pairs well with a variety of dishes. It goes particularly well with Mexican and Tex-Mex meals such as enchiladas, as well as grilled tofu, Potato Cakes, and roasted vegetables. You can also serve this as a dip for chips or veggies or even as a dressing for salads.
Ingredients for Sour Cream Sauce
You will need:
- 1/2 cup vegan sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons scallions, finely chopped
Ingredient Notes
- Vegan Sour Cream – Look for this dairy-free alternative to traditional sour cream in the dairy section or on the specialty refrigerated vegan aisle of your supermarket. I like Tofutti brand for this recipe.
- Garlic – Fresh is best; garlic powder is not recommended.
- Lemon Juice – Cuts through the richness of the sour cream with bright and light citrus notes.
- Salt and Ground Black Pepper – Amounts given are a guideline. Adjust according to personal taste or dietary restrictions.
- Scallions – Also known as green onions, scallions add fresh and mild onion flavor with a subtle sweetness and a pleasant crunch.
How to Make Sour Cream Sauce
STEP ONE: In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Stir in the scallions and adjust the seasoning to taste.
STEP TWO: Cover and refrigerate for about an hour (optional). Serve chilled.
