Vegan Mousse Recipe

One of the best things about this easy recipe is its simplicity. With just a few basic ingredients and minimal effort, you can whip up a batch of creamy chocolate goodness with all the creamy texture of traditional chocolate mousse in no time.

It’s also a versatile chocolate dessert that can be enjoyed plain or customized with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruits or dark chocolate chips.

Ingredients for Vegan Chocolate Mousse

You will need the following:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegan honey
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Ingredient Notes

  • Avocado – For best results, use an avocado that is almost too ripe. We’re aiming for a smooth and creamy consistency, so the softer, the better.
  • Cacao Powder – Cacao powder and cocoa powder can be used interchangeably in this recipe but do have slightly different tastes. If you want a more intense and rich chocolate flavor, opt for cacao powder. If you prefer a milder flavor, cocoa powder may be the better choice. Ultimately, the decision between cacao powder and cocoa powder comes down to personal preference.
  • Vegan Honey - Apple-based vegan honey adds a natural sweetness to the mousse. Look for it on the vegan aisle of the grocery store.
  • Vegan Heavy Cream – I use Silk brand. If heavy cream is not available, coconut milk will work in a pinch. Almond milk is too thin and not recommended for this recipe.
  • Vanilla Bean Paste –  This is a thicker and sweeter alternative to vanilla extract that adds depth of flavor.

How to Make Vegan Chocolate Mousse

STEP ONE: Remove the seed from the avocado and scoop the flesh into a food processor.

STEP TWO: Add the cacao powder, honey, heavy cream, and vanilla bean paste to the food processor.

STEP THREE: Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

STEP FOUR: Chill the mousse in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve cold.

Storage

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

It’s an apple-based alternative to honey. I order it from Vegan Essentials. 🙂
