Cranberry Salsa ~ Easy Holiday Appetizer
I like this festive cranberry salsa recipe because it’s an easy appetizer with fresh ingredients that looks pretty on a holiday party table. The bright red color also automatically lends itself to making a great addition to any Christmas party, Thanksgiving, or New Year holiday spread.
Cranberry Salsa is similar to a traditional salsa with fresh cilantro and jalapeno peppers in the way it’s served with chips or crackers but sweeter and with cranberries instead of tomatoes. The heat is easy to adjust, too, by adding more jalapeno for a spicier kick or less for a mild salsa.
This fresh cranberry salsa recipe really couldn’t be any simpler – the first thing you do is chop the cranberries in a food processor. Then add the remaining ingredients and chop a few seconds more until everything is combined and has reached your desired consistency. That’s it!
Cranberry jalapeño salsa may even be a perfect holiday appetizer because guests love the unique flavors and you can even make the salsa a day or two ahead and then just take it out of the fridge when you’re ready to serve.
Ingredients for Cranberry Salsa
You will need the following:
- 6 ounces cranberries, 1/2 bag of fresh cranberries
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon scallions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon cilantro leaves, chopped
- 1 tablespoon jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons lime juice
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Ingredient Notes
- Cranberries – This is the key ingredient, and fresh is the only way to go for this recipe.
- Granulated Sugar – White sugar is used to add sweetness and balance the naturally tart cranberries.
- Scallions (Green Onions), Cilantro, and Jalapeno Pepper – These simple ingredients add bright and fresh flavor to the cranberry mixture.
How to Make Cranberry Salsa
STEP ONE: Place cranberries in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until cranberries are about half the consistency you prefer for your salsa.
STEP TWO: Add the sugar, scallions, cilantro, jalapeno, lime juice, and salt. Pulse again until the cranberries are chopped into small pieces, and the ingredients are combined.
STEP THREE: Transfer to a serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and chill until ready to serve. Serve with tortilla chips or your favorite crackers.
Storage
- Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, this salsa will keep well for several days.
