Easy Ravioli Lasagna Recipe
Ravioli Lasagna, affectionately called “Lazy Lasagna,” is the ultimate comfort food for busy weeknights when you want something hearty and comforting without a lot of prep time. This recipe swaps out traditional lasagna noodles for layers of frozen ravioli, simplifying the process without sacrificing flavor. It’s hearty, cheesy, and satisfying—perfect for feeding the whole family with minimal effort.
This lazy lasagna recipe is built around pantry and freezer staples: jarred marinara sauce, store-bought ravioli, frozen spinach, and a mix of cheeses. It’s as convenient as it is delicious, making it a reliable go-to when you’re short on
While it might not fully replace a traditional lasagna for special occasions (Classic Lasagna is a Christmas Day tradition in our house), it is a great option for an easy weeknight dinner.
How to Make Ravioli Lasagna
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 25 ounces frozen cheese ravioli
- 10-ounce package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Ingredient Notes
- Marinara Sauce: A classic red sauce works perfectly, but feel free to use your favorite jarred pasta sauce for a personal touch.
- Frozen Ravioli: I went with cheese ravioli for this recipe, but mushroom or spinach ravioli are delicious options too. No need to thaw—layer them straight from the freezer!
- Frozen Spinach: Be sure to thaw it first and squeeze out as much water as you can. This keeps the lasagna from getting soggy. Chopped kale also works well for this recipe.
- Seasonings: Simple spices – garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and Italian seasoning – add just the right flavor.
- Cheeses: Grated Parmesan and shredded mozzarella cheese bring all the gooey, cheesy goodness this dish needs!
How to Make Ravioli Lasagna
STEP ONE: Quick Prep. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Spray an 8 x 8-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Mix the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl.
STEP TWO: Start Layering. Spread about 1/2 cup marinara sauce in the bottom of the prepared dish. Lay 1/3 of the frozen ravioli on top of the sauce. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the seasoning mixture, 1/3 of the Parmesan, and 1/3 of the mozzarella. Spread half of the spinach evenly over the cheese, then spoon about 3/4 cup marinara sauce on top.
STEP THREE: Repeat the Layers. Repeat the layers once: ravioli, seasonings, Parmesan, mozzarella, spinach, and marinara sauce.
STEP FOUR: Finish and Bake. For the final layer, arrange the remaining ravioli, sprinkle with the remaining seasoning, and spoon on the rest of the marinara sauce. Top with the remaining Parmesan and mozzarella cheese.
STEP FIVE: Bake to Perfection. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, until heated through and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to brown the cheese.
STEP SIX: Let It Rest. Take the lasagna out of the oven and let it stand for 10 minutes. Cut into individual servings and serve warm.
Optional Add-Ins
- For an extra layer of flavor, add cooked plant-based ground beef or crumbled Italian sausage to each ravioli layer.
- Sprinkle with red pepper flakes before serving for a touch of heat.
FAQ
- Can I use fresh ravioli? Yes, you can, but… frozen ravioli is recommended because it holds its shape better during baking. If using fresh, reduce the baking time slightly to avoid overcooking.
- What type of ravioli works best? Frozen cheese ravioli is a classic choice, but spinach or mushroom ravioli are excellent options for added flavor.
- Why no ricotta layers? The ravioli filling provides all the creamy texture and flavor you’d get from traditional ricotta cheese layers, so there’s no need for extra.
- Can I make this ahead of time? Yes! Assemble the lasagna up to a day in advance, cover tightly, and refrigerate. Bake as directed when ready to serve.
- Can this be made vegan? Absolutely! Use dairy-free ravioli and cheeses, and you’re all set.
Storage
- Store leftover ravioli casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
