Birthday Cake For Your Cat!
Celebrate your feline friend on their special day with a birthday treat made from just three simple ingredients. This homemade cake is sure to be a hit with your cat, filled with their favorite flavors and a little extra love!

Birthday Party for Our Cat
Last weekend, my family and I celebrated our cat Coco’s 3-year adoption anniversary, which we lovingly refer to as her birthday.
In addition to giving her a catnip-filled ball with a bright magenta feather and briefly adorning her with a birthday scarf, we served up this special treat. (I wanted her to wear a party hat, but she was having none of that.)
Is making a birthday cake for your cat a bit excessive? Not in this house! After all, as Julia Child famously said, “A party without cake is just a meeting.” So why not make the day memorable for your furry companion?
Ingredients for Your Cat’s Birthday Cake
You will need the following:
- 1 cup chunky wet cat food, drained and patted dry
- 1/4 cup cooked sweet potato, pureed
- 1/4 cup prepared mashed potatoes, plain and creamy-style
Special Equipment
- To shape the cake, you’ll need a mold like a 2-inch biscuit cutter or a cookie cutter to make a perfect little round cake. Make sure your mold is tall enough to hold the mixture.
- For a decorative touch, use a piping bag with a decorator tip for the mashed potato frosting.
How to Make a Birthday Cake For Your Cat
STEP ONE: Start with the wet food. Place the drained wet food in a medium bowl.
STEP TWO: Add sweet potatoes. Stir in the pureed sweet potato until fully incorporated.
STEP THREE: Shape the cake. Set a biscuit or cookie cutter onto a small plate. Scoop the entire treat mixture into the mold, pressing down with your hands to ensure a tight fit. Carefully remove the cutter.
STEP FOUR: Add the “frosting.” Fill a pastry bag with your desired amount of mashed potatoes, attach a decorator tip, and frost the cake.
STEP FIVE: Get the party started! Sing Happy Birthday and serve the cake at room temperature.
Storage
- This cake is a generous portion for any cat. Store leftovers wrapped tightly in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Discard any uneaten portions after this time to ensure freshness.
FAQ

- Can I substitute the sweet potato? Yes, mashed pumpkin can be used instead of sweet potato for a similar texture and flavor.
- Is this cake suitable for all cats? Always check with your vet if your cat has dietary restrictions. This homemade cake is designed for cats without specific health issues.
- Can I make this cake in advance? Yes, you can prepare the cake up to a day in advance. Just store it in the fridge and frost it right before serving.
- Will this recipe work for a dog birthday cake? This recipe has not been tested or adapted with different ingredients for dogs; it is specifically for cats.

Oh my gosh how adorable, I can’t wait to serve this to my Ginger Rogers. She’s a rescue so I don’t know exactly when her birthday is but I celebrate it on the anniversary of the day I adopted her.

Our girl Reggi was Over the moon with delight!
Her 1st birthday was last weekend. I made this super easy adorable Cat Birthday Cake and with mashed potato frosting on top, using a swirl tip on my frosting bag and I put a couple lines of plant based cat safe color down the inside of frosting bag as well, so the frosting had a highlight of purple and pink swirled in. We topped It off with an edible cat safe faux candle. It was beautiful! Reggi has been with us since she was 2 days old and Reggi’s 1st Birthday was perfect. 👨👩👧😽💟🎉🎂
Thank you from,
Reggi Grace & Family💝

Making this right now for my 14 year old boy. I don’t know his birthday because I saw him get hit by a car as he was last in line following his siblings and his mama running across the street. I ran over because I didn’t think he was no longer with us and I was trying to move him off of the road to give him some dignity, but as I grabbed him by the rough of the neck, I quickly discovered he was still alive. And feral! But 14 years later he still with us and I adore him each day. So I celebrate his birthday today along with his dog sister ( her birthday is today for sure!) because I found him in the early spring time when he was just a wee one! Since I don’t have sweet potato, I’m going to use pumpkin which I’m sure will be just fine. I think I’ll put some food coloring in the mashed potatoes as well! I’ll let you know how much he loved it!

Awww… Happy Birthday to your sweet babies! Thank you so much for sharing your story. 🥰 I think pumpkin sounds like an excellent substitute for the sweet potato. I hope they enjoy their special treat!
