Savory Sweet Potatoes Recipe

I like this sweet potato recipe because it’s a delicious side with simple ingredients that can be adjusted to suit your personal preference and achieve the perfect blend of savory flavors.

Creamy mashed sweet potatoes can also be a good alternative to regular mashed potatoes and a nice contrast to a traditional sweet potato casserole that’s packed with brown sugar and marshmallows at the holiday meal.

For a savory sweet potato mash with a kick try my Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes!

Savory Mashed Sweet Potatoes ~ Bring the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes to the holiday table with this easy recipe!

Ingredients for Savory Mashed Sweet Potatoes

You will need the following:

  • 2 1/2 pounds of sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3 tablespoons vegan butter
  • 1/3 cup vegan Parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1/3 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Optional Add-Ins

  • Use whatever fresh herbs you prefer. I use rosemary because it smells like Thanksgiving to me. Fresh thyme or fresh chives would also be a great addition to this recipe.

How to Make Savory Mashed Sweet Potatoes

STEP ONE: Place cubed sweet potatoes into a large pot over medium-high heat. Fill with enough water to cover the potatoes by 1 inch. Bring to a boil and cook for about 20 minutes or until fork-tender. (Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your potato chunks.) Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.

STEP TWO: Off heat, add the butter, Parmesan cheese, rosemary, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Using a potato masher or electric hand mixer on low speed, mash or blend to your desired consistency.

STEP THREE: Adjust seasoning to taste, transfer to a serving bowl, and serve hot.

Storage

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
