Garlic Parmesan Edamame Recipe

I like this roasted edamame because it’s packed with savory flavors and comes together quickly. It’s ready in under 30 minutes and uses just a few basic ingredients, so it’s easy to pull together without much effort. Perfect for busy days or when you want something a little different to share.

The recipe starts with shelled edamame tossed with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper for a savory base. A sprinkle of Parmesan adds a cheesy layer that complements the light nuttiness of the edamame, and roasting in the oven brings all the flavors together.

Quick to prepare and full of cheesy, garlicky goodness, this easy edamame is a great way to elevate a simple snack.

Ingredients for Roasted Edamame with Parmesan

  • 12-ounce package frozen shelled edamame, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Optional garnish: additional Parmesan cheese

Ingredient Notes

  • Edamame – bag of edamame with shells removed
  • Olive Oil: A light coating of olive oil helps the seasoning stick and adds richness to the roasted edamame.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Use freshly grated regular or dairy-free Parmesan for the best flavor. It melts slightly during roasting, creating a savory, cheesy coating.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds a subtle, earthy garlic flavor that complements the nuttiness of the edamame and Parmesan.
  • Kosher Salt and Black Pepper: These simple seasonings enhance the overall flavor and balance the dish.

How to Quickly Thaw Frozen Edamame

This is my go-to method. It’s easy and ensures the shelled edamame is ready for roasting without compromising texture:

  1. Place the frozen edamame in a medium bowl. Fill the bowl with warm water until the edamame is fully submerged.
  2. Let the edamame sit for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even thawing.
  3. Drain the water and pat the edamame dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels before seasoning.

How to Make Roasted Edamame with Parmesan

Step 1: Prep. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Prep the Edamame. Place thawed and thoroughly dried edamame into a medium bowl.

Step 3: Season the Edamame. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add to the edamame mixture and toss to coat.

Step 4: Add Parmesan. Sprinkle in the Parmesan cheese and toss again to coat the edamame evenly.

Step 5: Roast. Spread the coated edamame in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, shaking the pan gently halfway through to ensure even roasting.

Step 6: Serve. Remove from the oven and let the edamame rest for 5 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl, garnish with additional Parmesan cheese if desired, and serve warm.

Quick Tips for Success

  • Dry the Edamame Thoroughly: After thawing, use a kitchen towel or paper towels to pat the edamame completely dry to help the seasoning stick better and achieve the best texture.
  • Use Freshly Grated Parmesan: For the best flavor and texture, opt for freshly grated Parmesan cheese rather than pre-grated varieties.
  • Shake the Pan Midway: Gently shake the baking sheet halfway through cooking to ensure even crisping and to prevent sticking.
  • Serve Immediately: This dish is best enjoyed warm, right out of the oven, to maintain its crispy texture.
  • Customize the Flavor: Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick or a sprinkle of smoked paprika for a smoky depth of flavor.

    Storage

    • If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or an air fryer at 375°F for 5–7 minutes.
