Summer Fruit Salad Recipe

I love this simple refreshing salad because it’s a delightful mix of sweet and spicy flavors. The fresh melon balls provide a juicy, cooling base, while the chile lime seasoning adds a zesty kick that brings the whole dish to life. It’s an easy, vibrant dish that’s perfect for summer gatherings or as a light, refreshing snack on a hot day.

Easy Melon Prep

Using a melon baller is the easiest way to create uniform, attractive melon balls for your salad. To use it, start by cutting your melon in half and scooping out the seeds. Hold the melon firmly and press the melon baller into the flesh, twisting it to form a perfect sphere. This simple tool not only makes your fruit look appealing but also ensures consistent bite-sized pieces that are easy to eat.

Ingredients for Chile Lime Melon Salad

You will need the following:

  • 2 cups watermelon, balled or cubed
  • 1 cup cantaloupe, balled or cubed
  • 1 cup honeydew, balled or cubed
  • 1 tablespoon white balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon chile lime seasoning, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh mint, chopped

Ingredient Notes

  • Fresh Melon: Use seedless watermelon or remove the seeds for convenience.
  • White Balsamic Vinegar: You can substitute with white vinegar or champagne vinegar for a similar tangy flavor.
  • Honey: Agave nectar can be used as an alternative.
  • Chile Lime Seasoning: I used Trader Joe’s blend, which typically includes chile powder, lime juice powder, salt, and other spices.
  • Salt: Enhances the flavors of the salad.
  • Fresh Mint: Adds a refreshing touch; finely chop for best results.

How to Make Chile Lime Melon Salad

STEP ONE: Prepare the Melon. In a large bowl, toss together the watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew.

STEP TWO: Make the Dressing. In a small bowl, combine the white balsamic vinegar, honey, chile lime seasoning, and salt. Drizzle over the melon and gently toss to combine.

STEP THREE: Chill and Serve: Refrigerate until chilled. Adjust seasoning to taste, then sprinkle with mint and serve.

FAQ

  • Can this be made ahead? Yes, preparing it a few hours in advance allows the flavors to meld nicely.
  • Can it sit overnight? Yes, but for the best texture, it’s recommended to serve within 24 hours.
  • Can I use other fruits? Absolutely! Try adding pineapple, mango, or berries for a twist.
  • What if I don’t have chile lime seasoning? You can make your own by combining lime zest, a pinch of chili powder or red pepper flakes for heat, and a bit of salt.

Storage

  • Store the salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Stir gently before serving to redistribute the dressing.
