Baked Okra Recipe

Sometimes the simplest dishes are the best! This easy roasted okra is tasty as a side dish or appetizer.

I like this recipe because the okra is baked, not fried, which enhances the natural flavor of the okra. For roasted okra with a spicier kick, try my Creole-Seasoned Okra Fries.

Also, I’ve never been a fan of the slime factor with okra (who has, right?) and that is no longer an issue with this cooking method and the #1 reason roasting is now my go-to way of preparing okra.

Pro tip: When selecting your okra, look for firm, brightly colored pods that are no more than 4″ in length (shorter pods tend to have less slime, to begin with) and are without bruises or soft spots.

Ingredients for Easy Roasted Okra

You will need the following:

  • 1 pound fresh okra pods
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make Easy Roasted Okra

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Remove caps and slice okra into 1/3″ thick pieces.

STEP TWO: Place sliced okra in a medium bowl and drizzle with olive oil, tossing to coat. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

STEP THREE: Spread the okra onto a baking sheet, in an even layer. Bake for 10-12 minutes and serve.
