Vegan Chocolate Banana Bread
I like this easy banana bread recipe because it’s just like regular banana bread but made slightly more decadent to satisfy a sweet tooth, with the addition of dairy-free chocolate chips.
Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
You will need the following:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 large overripe bananas
- 1 1/4 cup vegan chocolate chips, divided
- 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup vegan sour cream
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- Overripe Bananas – Spotty bananas make the best banana bread!
- Vegan Chocolate Chips – Check the label; several brands of milk or dark chocolate chips are vegan.
- Vegan Sour Cream – Sour cream acts as a binder and takes the place of flax eggs or commercial egg replacer frequently found in vegan quick breads.
How to Make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
STEP ONE: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9×5-inch metal loaf pan with parchment paper so the edges hang over the pan.
STEP TWO: In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
STEP THREE: In a large mixing bowl, use a fork to mash the bananas. Add the wet ingredients – vegetable oil, sour cream, lemon juice, and vanilla extract and stir to combine.
STEP FOUR: Add the flour mixture 1/2 cup at a time, stirring to incorporate after each addition. Add 1 cup of chocolate chips, stirring just until distributed throughout the banana bread batter.
STEP FIVE: Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and use a spatula to smooth the top. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips.
STEP SIX: Bake for 1 hour. After removing from the oven, allow the bread to stand in the loaf pan for 10 minutes, then use the edges of the parchment paper to carefully lift the bread from the pan and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. For best results, serve at room temperature.
Storage
- Chocolate chip banana bread can be stored, covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container, for a few days. This moist banana bread is best served at room temperature.
