Large Batch Black Beans Recipe
I like this recipe because the beans are delicious, but they’re also super simple to make and scaled just right for a mid-size gathering.
Most recently, I took these beans to a taco bar-themed party of about 20 or so people and there were no leftovers. A few people even approached me to ask for the recipe. They were surprised to learn that the dish was so simple to make, yet packed with so much flavor.
Ingredients for Black Beans for a Crowd
You will need:
- 4 (15-ounce) cans black beans
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
How to Make Black Beans for a Crowd
STEP ONE: Drain and rinse black beans from three of the cans. Leave the remaining fourth can undrained.
STEP TWO: Heat a large, deep skillet over medium heat then add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the onion and cook for 3 minutes, stirring frequently until softened. Add the garlic and continue cooking for an additional 30 seconds.
STEP THREE: Add all the black beans, including the liquid from the undrained can. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, until heated through.
STEP FOUR: Remove from heat, sprinkle with cilantro, and serve warm.

Can this be made ahead and what is the best way to reheat?
thiswifecooks
Hi Alison ~ Yes, this dish can be prepared a day in advance and then gently reheated on the stove. Also wait to add the cilantro until ready to serve. I hope this is helpful!
