Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting ~
A rich and creamy dairy-free frosting made with 4 simple ingredients.
This frosting is perfect for the holidays and everyday desserts, including the classic carrot cake, red velvet cake, and even cookies!
Ingredients for Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 1/2 cup vegan butter – Stick butter is easiest for measuring. Just cut up a full stick for the 1/2 cup of butter needed in the recipe.
- 8 ounces dairy-free cream cheese – I like the firmness of Tofutti brand cream cheese for frosting.
- 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste – Personally, I prefer the flavor and thicker consistency of vanilla bean paste but vanilla extract can also be used in an equal amount.
- 4 cups powdered sugar – Also known as confectioners’ sugar.
How to make Cream Cheese Frosting:
STEP ONE: Cream the butter. Into a large-size mixing bowl, add the softened vegan butter. Use a mixer on medium speed to beat the butter until the consistency is smooth.
STEP TWO: Add the dairy-free cream cheese and vanilla bean paste, then continue mixing for 30 seconds, just enough to incorporate with the butter.
STEP THREE: Mix in the powdered sugar. Switch the mixer speed to low then begin gradually adding the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time until all is combined and the consistency of the frosting is thick but still spreadable.
STEP FOUR: Refrigerate until ready to use.
Tips and Tricks for Success:
- Allow cake layers or cupcakes to cool completely before adding frosting.
- Store frosted cakes and cupcakes in the refrigerator.
