- 2 pounds apples peeled, cored, and chopped into 1/4-inch pieces
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon optional
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon (if using).
Cover and cook for 15 minutes, until the apples are fork-tender.
Remove from heat and allow to cool 15 minutes, until the apple mixture has thickened.
Using a potato masher, mash the apples to your desired consistency.
Applesauce can be served warm right away or chilled for later.
