Ingredients

  • 2 pounds apples peeled, cored, and chopped into 1/4-inch pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon optional

Instructions

  • Into a large saucepan over medium heat, add the apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon (if using).
  • Cover and cook for 15 minutes, until the apples are fork-tender.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool 15 minutes, until the apple mixture has thickened.
  • Using a potato masher, mash the apples to your desired consistency.
  • Applesauce can be served warm right away or chilled for later.
