- 3 tablespoons vegan butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups oat milk or other mild-flavored plant milk
- 1 1/2 cup vegan smoked Gouda cheese shredded
Into a medium saucepan over low heat, add the butter. When the butter is melted, add the flour. Whisk in the flour.
Gradually pour in the milk, whisking continuously until the milk is evenly incorporated into the mix. Bring just to a simmer for 3 minutes; do not boil.
Add the cheese and continue stirring until fully melted.
Keep the sauce at a low simmer, stirring occasionally, for an additional 5 minutes then remove from the heat and serve.
